The Driller course is designed for personnel who are engaged in drilling operations that have responsibility for detecting a kick and shutting in the well. This IADC certification course is taught by an IADC accredited instructor. The course focuses specifically on the Driller’s primary responsibilities rather than on advanced calculations and well control methods. It includes kick prevention, influx detection, well monitoring, introduction to barrier management and shut-in. Re-certification is required every two years. This is a prerequisite for initial certification in the Supervisor course.
To achieve certification, participants must demonstrate how to identify the causes and warning signs of a kick and shut in the well using the correct procedure. Students learn how to line up the BOP stack and the choke manifold, in order to record slow circulation rates prior to drilling. Students also conduct stripping exercises in a full-sized conventional simulator
